Sound Bath Workshop

February 9, 2023Wonder Yoga

Allow yourself to be surrounded by the deeply relaxing and healing vibrations that are produced by the Singing Bowls and a cello. Join Cicely Carew and Rhea Marcella Gibson for a 60 minute Sound Bath Meditation followed by tea and treats.

What is a Sound Bath?A Sound Bath is a meditative journey that involves various instruments, each varying in vibrations and frequencies. The resonates that are produced affect the entirety of your body leading to a state of total relaxation, where your brain waves transition into theta brain waves. In this state of relaxation, the mind and body are able to come back into alignment and wellness. The Sound Bath Meditation benefits the participants for up to 72 hours.

During a Sound Bath Meditation, the participants are asked to bring yoga mats, blankets, and a pillow to lay down on during the meditation. The Sound Bath lowers your heart rate, slows your breathing, allows muscles to release tension, and brings ‘stilllness’ into the mind. A Sound Bath helps to reduce stress, deepen the meditative state, and allow for a sense of peace and well being too over you.

Pre-registration is required for this event. This workshop is suitable for all levels. Please bring your own yoga mat and bottle of water.

*Tickets become nonrefundable and non transferable within seven days of this workshop.

Cicely Carew

Boston-based, L.A.-bred Cicely Carew’s multimedia works comprise an ecosystem of possibility. With rebellious mark-making, vibrant color, and sweeping gestures, Carew captures the momentary magic of her process to build enduring spaces of radical joy and liberation. Carew’s experiences as a mother, wellness coach, and nature-lover are evident; she rejects the neutrality of abstraction in favor of work that is both personal and universal.

Carew earned her BFA from MassArt and her MFA from Lesley. Her work has been featured in solo and group exhibitions across the northeast, including Praise Shadows Gallery, LaiSun Keane Gallery, ChaShaMa, and Northeastern University. In 2021, Boston’s Prudential Center commissioned Carew to create a 5,000 sq. ft. installation, Ambrosia. She recently debuted her first solo exhibition, Quantum Sanctuary, at Fitchburg Art Museum. Carew resides with her son in Cambridge, MA.

Rhéa Marcella Gibson

Rhéa Marcella Gibson, originally from Cambridge, MA is an educator and musician who began playing cello at the age of 7 after hearing Yo-Yo Ma perform at a school assembly. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in sociology and music (cello performance) from Emory University and a Master’s Degree from the Harvard Graduate School of Education with a concentration in Arts in Education.

Her cello has taken her overseas as a member of various ensembles and led her to become an orchestra director for several public and public charter schools in Atlanta, GA. She enjoyed performing on occasion as part of a duet called “Solely Strings” in Atlanta until moving back to Cambridge with her 3 young boys in 2016. Most recently her cello has brought her to her current position as Assistant Program Director of City Strings United, a cello-based youth development/music education program based in Roxbury, MA. Offering sound baths for meditation, relaxation and healing is her most recent musical endeavor which she finds particularly enriching and rewarding.
