Somatic Yoga Training with Shawn Cornelison

Somatic Yoga Training with Shawn Cornelison

Curious about somatics? This practice uses the mind-body connection to help you tune into your internal self and recognize signals from your body about pain, discomfort, or imbalance. Somatics can offer insight into how we store experiences in the body. Experts believe that this awareness, combined with natural movement and touch, can support healing and wellness. The concept was first coined by educator Thomas Hanna in 1970 to describe techniques that boost bodily awareness through movement and relaxation.

Although somatic practices have become popular in the West over the past 50 years, many are rooted in Eastern philosophies and healing methods, including tai chi and qi gong. In this workshop, you’ll explore these movement and relaxation techniques and learn how to integrate them into regular classes like vinyasa, Yin, or Restorative yoga. This training is accessible to everyone, whether you’re a yoga teacher or not. By the end, you’ll have the tools to build a home practice that can relieve tension and pain and cultivate a more resilient nervous system. Personally, I’ve seen a significant reduction in daily tension and discomfort from incorporating these movements.
