Somatic Yoga Training with Shawn Cornelison
Explore the Power of Somatics
If you’re familiar with alternative wellness practices, you may have heard the term “somatics” without fully understanding what it means. Somatics refers to any practice that uses the mind-body connection to help you tune into your internal experience. These practices allow you to listen to the signals your body sends about pain, discomfort, or imbalance.
Somatic experts believe that increased awareness, combined with natural movement and touch, supports healing and wellness. The term “somatics” was coined in 1970 by educator Thomas Hanna to describe various techniques that help people become more aware of their bodies through movement and relaxation.
Although somatics has gained popularity in the West over the last 50 years, many of these practices have roots in ancient Eastern healing traditions, including tai chi and qi gong.
This workshop is designed to help you explore somatic-based movement and relaxation techniques. We will look at ways to integrate these practices into classes like vinyasa, Yin, or Restorative. You do not need to be a teacher to benefit. Students will learn how to create a home practice that supports a more grounded and resilient nervous system, while reducing tension and daily discomfort.
You will receive video recordings covering all of the movements explored in the training. In the second session, we will build on your knowledge with additional movements for the hands, wrists, feet, hips, and shoulders. If you missed the first training, you are still welcome to join. We will review key concepts so that all participants can benefit from the experience.
Join us to experience the benefits of somatic movement and build a supportive, healing practice for yourself.
