WHAT IS SUPPORTING BONE HEALTH THROUGH YOGA?

Supporting Bone Health Through Yoga is a workshop focused on using yoga to build and maintain strong, healthy bones. According to Harvard Health, “Activities that put stress on bones stimulate extra deposits of calcium and nudge bone-forming cells into action. The result is stronger, denser bones.”

This practice emphasizes the importance of bone health at all life stages—whether you’re looking to build strength or maintain mobility.

WHAT TO EXPECT?

This 90-minute workshop includes:

  • Vinyasa Flow: A dynamic, flowing sequence designed to build strength and flexibility.
  • Pose Holds: Certain poses are held for 30–60 seconds to maximize balance and weight-bearing benefits.
  • Yoga Nidra: A 15-minute guided relaxation practice to end the session, leaving you refreshed and centered.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Yoga stimulates bone cells in key areas such as the spine, hips, and femur, encouraging calcium deposits and the formation of a stronger bone matrix. These practices integrate weight-bearing movement with mindful techniques to support your overall bone health.

This workshop is open to students of all ages and levels of yoga experience. Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned practitioner, this class offers a welcoming space to focus on your health and vitality.

Mary Brooks

With over 40 years of dedicated yoga practice, Mary Brooks embodies the transformative power of mindful movement. Her yoga journey began unexpectedly when she stumbled into her first class, instantly discovering a profound key to navigating life’s complexities. Over the decades, Mary’s practice has evolved alongside her life, gracefully adapting to the challenges of injuries and the natural process of aging.

Mary’s professional background is as dynamic as her approach to yoga. She spent years as a research scientist, delving deep into the intricacies of the natural world, before transitioning into the role of a science and art teacher. Her innate curiosity and passion for exploration infuse every class she leads, inviting students to embrace their own journeys of discovery on and off the mat.

In 2024, Mary completed her 500-hour Yoga Teacher Training with Nicole Siegel at Wonder Yoga in Arlington, MA. Her teaching philosophy focuses on cultivating balance, flexibility, strength, and grounding through an artful blend of movement, stillness, and breathwork.

Mary’s classes are an invitation to find harmony and resilience within—whether you’re seeking physical strength, mental clarity, or simply a moment of peace in a busy world. She creates a space where every student can explore their own path, inspired by her wisdom and gentle guidance.
