What inspired you to take your first yoga class?
I was living in Panama (yes, the country) and a friend at work had said that she really liked going. I had done a few yoga videos previously but really wanted to try a class. So I said what the heck and joined her! That was almost 20 years ago and I can’t imagine my life without yoga.
What is your favorite yoga pose and why?
Half moon. When I first started to do yoga, I pretty much fell out of this every single time. Then someone gave me an assist to understand how my leg and hand placement should be and since then I love it! I love the feeling of lightness in my back foot and grounding between my standing pose and my hand on a block and then openness in my hips.
What is your favorite part about being a yoga teacher?
I love showing people that no matter what their age, body type, athletic ability that they can do yoga and that it benefits them exactly where they are at in their life. For me yoga is something that you do so you can do everything else and I love sharing that aspect of this practice.
What is your biggest challenge right now in your practice?
Arm balances! I totally have t-rex arms so I am always looking for ways to use blocks or other modificaitions to help to “close” to getting into a pose.
What do you do to recharge?
I love to go out on my road bike out to Concord/Lexington. It is so peaceful to go for ride out in such a beautiful landscape. We are so lucky to have this beautiful area close to a major city. I am also a big proponent of mindfulness and meditation. Since starting this practice, I’ve really found it a powerful way to recharge in only about 5 minutes. Ask me more if you want to learn about it!
What is a fun fact about you?
I love football. No, I mean seriously love it. I grew up watching football with my dad, attending a big football university (and grad school) and my “girls weekend” last year was four girlfriends going out to watch a college game at our alma mater.
